If you are one of the millions of Americans who have been fighting the credit card battle and looking for an easy resolve to your debt problems, it may take some time to accomplish. Although it won’t be easy, you can find relief if you remain committed to the mission. Most importantly, if you don’t take action to reduce credit card debt now, you will never find relief. Despite the difficulty, some experts have a few suggestions on what cardholders can do to help reduce debt. The process begins by sitting down and making a thorough list of all personal expenses and monthly financial commitments. You will be surprised on how you can save just by cutting out expenses on things you really don’t need or use. Take the amount you cut out from an unnecessary expense and use it to pay a higher amount toward your credit card payment.

Examine your credit card contracts to see what interest rate you’re paying on each card. Your goal will be to pay down cards with the highest interest rate first and reduce all debt to one card so that you only have one monthly payment. Begin by calling each credit card company and ask for a reduction in interest rate. If you have been paying your monthly payments on time and as agreed, most lenders will lower your interest rate by a few percentages. If you are able to transfer balances onto one card at a lower interest rate, a larger portion of your payment will be applied toward the balance. This would also be a perfect opportunity to double you payments or at least pay more than the minimum payment due.

Home equity line of credits are almost always a great way to pay down card debt because they typically charge at least half the interest rate that a traditional card charges. Home equity loans are more difficult for consumers to qualify for these days as a result of the home mortgage crisis. Lastly, but most importantly, stop using your card. If you use a credit card just to earn rewards, there’s a wide assortment of debit cards available offering some very appealing reward programs.
